Mountfield S461R PD 46cm Self-Propelled Petrol Rear Roller Rotary Mower

Thanks for looking at my listing for a Mountfield S461 PD Lawnmower. This mower has always be kept in a garage after use, and maintained well. This is an Unleaded Four-stroke Petrol Lawnmower with a rear roller for lawn stripes and better control over edges, and power driven - so no pushing needed.

An excellent mower that was fully serviced last season, including a proper strip down and replacement of engine gaskets by our local lawnmover servicing company to ensure excellent running performance. This has a simple Single Handle adjustment lever for height of wheels and roller, and foldable quick release handles to fit in sheds or garages with minimal space. There is a standard hose attachment on the top deck for automatic cleaning of the underside - just attach your garden hose, switch on water and run the engine. The mover has always been used in rotation during a season with a second mower of the same type, and works perfectly. Good starting, and even running, with a single speed throttle control lever. Power-drive lever, and dead switch to switch off motor when not attended for safety. The fuel used in the machine has always had Briggs & Stratton Fuel Fit Additive/Stabiliser added to ensure the fuel remains clean.

This additive (which I would recommend for future user) does the following: Keeps fuel fresh for up to 3 years Fuel Fit not only keeps the carburettor clean for easy starting but now also protects against the corrosive effects of ethanol Detergent ingredients to prevent gum and varnish build-up on engine parts Metal de-activators which stop chemical reactions caused by dissolved metals in fuel Corrosion inhibitor that forms a protective barrier on metal parts against harmful effects of ethanol-water mix Easy fill fuel tank, and easy access to Oil top up plug and level indicator. Were going to spoil the surprise somewhat in this review and tell you that the Mountfield S461 PD has recently been selected by the Telegraph as one of the top 10 lawn mowers for 2014. Now, everybody has a different opinion and one mans top 10 is another mans bag of rusty old bolts, but what it does show is that this mower is held in high regard across the industry. It, of course, comes with a good pedigree.

Mountfield are one of the top lawn mower specialists in the country and produce a fantastic line of mowers big and small. The Mountfield S461 PD is a self-propelled rotary petrol lawnmower and comes with the usual secondary features weve come to expect from quality mowers these days : easy assembly, fold away handles for easy storage; ergonomic and accessible for everybody. For starters, the Mountfield S461 PD comes at a decent weight and so can move across the lawn and be manoeuvred very easily. Most slopes and undulations are mowed without you realising they are there. Well take the time to point out that this is a rear wheeled mower and not a rear roller model so dont be expecting any neat striped lawns when the job is done.

With the decent sized 46cm rotary blade cutting away at the grass, its a mower that chops through grass easily and in nice big swathes as it goes. This is pretty much the standard and expected cutting width on mowers at this price point and there are no arguments there from us. There is an easy single level that allows you to choose between one of the 5 pre-set cutting heights that will provide a cut of between 25mm and 80mm which is more than enough for most gardens. The Mountfield S461 PD is aimed at medium sized gardens of up to 40m x 40m and wed say that that target was pretty much spot on.

There is a nice and big hard topped canvass 60 litre grass box on the back of the mower which collects grass well. The collection box also comes with an indicator which tells you when its full and time for emptying, which is always handy. This grass box can be removed if you choose to turn the S461 PD into a rear discharge model. Finally, the engine of the Mountfield S461 PD is a 140cc OHV petrol engine that provides about 4hp worth of power and has a 1 litre fuel tank attached. The power output of the engine is just about right and should manage to provide enough juice to power the cutting blades through most of the grass types youll come across. The Mountfield S461 PD is right up there with the best at this price range. Yes, there are better mowers around but youll find yourself paying a lot more to have access to them. What really impresses about this mower is that it is perfectly targeted at the medium size garden and every aspect of it is geared to that task.

Nothing is out of place and makes you think that a particular feature isnt good enough to achieve that or is a bit overkill.
